🇨🇦🇪🇺 What if a major rapprochement between Canada and the European Union becomes a driver for our real estate market?
The idea that Canada could become an associate partner of the European Union goes far beyond international politics.
If this rapprochement materializes and leads to more exchanges, investments, and mobility between the two markets, the spillovers could be very interesting for Canadian real estate.
Why?
Because real estate generally follows economic activity.
More European companies investing in or establishing themselves in Canada means potentially more factories, offices, distribution centers, and industrial projects.
And behind these investments come jobs.
Behind jobs come workers and families.
And behind this growth comes increased demand for housing, retail, land, and infrastructure.
For Quebec, the opportunity could be particularly interesting. We have relatively clean energy, significant natural resources, a skilled workforce, and a strategic geographic position giving access to the North American market.
Regions located around major highway, rail, and maritime corridors could eventually benefit from new industrial and logistical investments.
We must of course remain prudent: becoming an “associate partner” would not automatically raise property values overnight.
But in the longer term, diversifying our economy and attracting more foreign capital can create a favorable environment for real estate.
And there is another element I find particularly interesting.
For decades, a large part of our economic growth has been closely linked to the United States. Developing our relations further with a market of more than 450 million people would allow Canada to rely less on a single partner.
For real estate, a more diversified economy and more investments can mean more jobs, more development, and ultimately more demand.
🇨🇦 Our proximity to the United States will always be a huge advantage.
But having America to the south and Europe as a strategic partner on the other side of the Atlantic could become a particularly interesting economic position for Canada.
And in real estate, when the economy of a region develops, the surrounding territory often feels the effects. 🏡🏗️
